BTEC / PTLLS (PREPARING TO TEACH IN LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR) LEVEL 4 AWARD Print E-mail

This course includes The BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint.

Course Aims

Our BTEC / PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) Level 4 Award has been constructed around the skills and knowledge acquired our NFPS / BTEC Level 3 Physical Restraint & Breakaway Instructors Course – giving you a dynamic and real context in which to learn and apply the PTLLS learning requirements.

WHY DO THAT?

One of the main bits of feedback that we got from people we meet who had to acquire the old 7302, 7303 and 7407, was that what they learnt had no relevance to them in relation to the courses they had to deliver. In short, they did the old 7302, 7303 and 7407 as 'stand-alone' courses just to get the qualification. In other words, because they had to get the old qualifications to teach, so it became a 'tick in the box' exercise for many. This meant that for many the learning experience that the old qualifications were meant to install was not retained and therefore soon forgotten because the old qualifications were not taught in a specific context that made it easily understandable or relevant to the learner. This meant that people could not (or did not) apply the learning acquired in the training qualification in the professional courses that they were expected to deliver once qualified.

By developing the new PTLLS Award around the context of teaching a Physical Skill (Restraint & Breakaway) it becomes a much more valuable learning experience as people can experience how it works when applied in a specific context. This makes learning much more enjoyable - and measurable - and retainable.

As part of the course we also teach you how to use the Advanced Learning Techniques that we use in our Instructors Training, making you a much better, more efficient and more effective trainer. In addition to the more traditional learning models we also teach NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), and the principles of Quantum Thinking which is based on new discoveries in how we function as human beings, even delving into the fascinating and exciting world of Quantum Mechanics – Yes, Quantum Mechanics! It is a phenomenal and opens up a whole new way to teaching and learning. For many it has actually been life changing!

The benefit to you is that you can do this course and come away with two BTEC Awards: A BTEC / PTLLS Level 4 Award and a BTEC level 3 Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint.

We can also, using a combination of guided and blended learning techniques, provide you with a BTEC Level 3 Award in the Delivery of Conflict Management Training if you are willing to do a bit of additional distance learning.

This would mean that you could actually come away with three BTEC Trainers Awards!

WHAT IS PTLLS?

The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award is a requirement for all those who are new to teaching, training or tutoring in publicly funded provision. The course is also for trained tutors or teachers who want to update their underpinning knowledge and teaching or training skills.

The Award is suitable for people who are currently teaching or who are considering teaching and who do not hold any formally recognised qualification to teach.

WHY SHOULD I DO IT?

As from 2010, anyone teaching should have, as a minimum, a PTLLS Award Certificate.

Essentially anyone who delivers learning to one or more individuals needs to now hold a PTLLS Award, whether the teaching is delivered in a classroom or at business premises. The Award is designed to cover trainers and assessors providing courses and underpinning knowledge for work and vocational qualifications. The intention with PTLLS is to have a "one size fits all" qualification which will give all qualified teachers a substantive qualification that allows them to pass the necessary threshold to teach.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course you will have a much greater knowledge of:

How individuals learn;

How the Brain processes, stores and recalls information;

The Structure of Language and how we can use specific words to enhance learning in others and achieve positive outcomes more effectively;

How to Set and Achieve Goals;

How to undertake an construct a Training Needs Analysis around Physical Skill Development Programmes;

The Relationship between Motor learning and performance covering such issues as: Guthrie's definition of skill, Hicks Law, Decision making & performance under conditions of arousal and anxiety, The relationship between stress and performance, Yerkes Dobson Law and the Inverted 'U' hypothesis, the physiological differences between men and women.

The course also looks at the application of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Neuro-Associative Learning (how the brain learns by association) in a physical skills development environment.

The course also covers aspects of Positive Psychology and Combat Psychology to understand how pressure, stress and anxiety affect performance and how we can use up-to-date cutting edge knowledge to overcome such obstacles to learning.

The course even delves into and explores the realm of Quantum Mechanics to back up, scientifically, why and how our minds work and how, by changing our focus of attention, we can achieve the outcomes we seek.

As one recent delegate said: "I have learned and understood more about NLP on this course than I ever learned on my Master Practitioners!"

Course Feedback

“Hi Mark,

Many thanks for all your help and support both pre course and on the course, I learnt so much about myself during the week (not all good). You have truly inspired me to believe in myself and become the person I want to be. Before the course my self worth and self belief had been severely dented but by the end of the week I felt that I had been on a real journey of self discovery which with out you, your team and the friendliness of the other people on the course made it a safe non threatening environment in which I could explore my feelings and focus on the areas of my life which need to be changed. By the end of the course I was in a very emotional place and a few tears have been shed.

The positives are that I am taking back control of my future and have approached a friend to do training courses outside of work and I have also approached a security company to do training for them which I would not of done before the course. I am trying to get private funding to do the handcuffing course if there are still places available.

Many thanks for everything you have done.

Julian
